Citi FM arrest: Bridget Otoo says Ghana Police is bereft of tactics and sense

Citi FM arrest: Bridget Otoo says Ghana Police is bereft of tactics and sense

- Operatives of the National Security on Tuesday arrested two journalists of Accra-based Citi FM - They were arrested for unlawfully filming at a national security installation - Bridget Otoo described the arrest as senseless

Former TV3 reporter, Bridget Otoo, has taken the Ghana Police Service to the cleaners after the ‘Rambo' style arrest of two journalists of Accra-based Citi FM by National Security operatives.

National Security operatives picked up Caleb Kudah on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, for reportedly filming within the premises of a National Security Ministry, a restricted security zone. About seven heavily armed officers subsequently stormed the premises of Citi FM/Citi TV in an attempt to arrest, Zoe Abu-Baidoo, another broadcast journalist with the respected media house, whom they claimed had received files from Caleb Kudah. Reacting to the arrest in a tweet sighted by ghanaspinn.com, the former TV3 journalist questioned the professional training of officers of the Ghana Police Service and the rationale behind their show of bravado during their arrest of the Citi FM journalists.

“You didn’t need armed officers; you could have even sent men who weren’t in uniform but I get it;” she tweeted. “Tactics and sense aren’t one of the strongest traits of @GhPoliceService,” she added.

Bridget Otoo’s post sparked massive reactions. @HananTrendy stated: “So some of them were even wearing bulletproof vest!? The rebellion against ordinary citizen especially the media is getting worse by the day. Hawa Koomson who shot in the crowd, wasn't pickup by any security body, she invited by the police. Awwww Loudly crying face Shame to @NAkufoAddo.” OheneReal added: “We pride ourselves as a “Christian Nation”, whose God is the Lord. When we think of our country, look at the people in it, and ask ourselves: are we blessed?” @Edemprosper2 observed: “@Citi973 are enjoying the fruit of what they sow, it was same @Citi973 that they used in 2016 with the likes of @lordcudjoe, Sydney Hayford and co.

@psamlalo said: “What most of Ghanaian don't know is our security agencies are cowards, why will u arrest a woman like this, a total display of cowardice.” @CruzGhana stated: “This is what happens When you've a failed system and a confused leadership/government...”

This comes after the former special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, launched a scathing attack on Agyebeng for being nominated for the office of the special prosecutor. Amidu, who resigned as the country’s first Special Prosecutor in the runup to the crucial 2020 general elections over “political interference” warned in his latest epistles that Ghanaians must be worried over the nomination of Agyebeng.
