Unacceptable arrest of Citi FM journalists ‘crude, archaic, senseless’ - Sam George

- Operatives of the National Security on Tuesday arrested two journalists of Accra-based Citi FM - They were arrested for unlawfully filming at a national security installation - Sam George has described the arrest as senseless

Ningo Prampram lawmaker, Sam George, described the arrest of Citi FM journalists—Caleb Kudah and Zoe Abu-Baidoo as “archaic and senseless.” In a Facebook post sighted by ghanaspinn.com, Sam George accused the media of being complicit in the perpetuation of “these shameless acts of intimidation, and today it has come after them sadly.”

Some heavily armed national security operatives picked up Caleb Kudah on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, for filming within the premises of a National Security Ministry, which is known to be a restricted security zone.

According to a Citi News report, about seven heavily armed officers subsequently stormed the premises of Citi FM/Citi TV in an attempt to arrest, Zoe Abu-Baidoo, another broadcast journalist with the respected media house, whom they claimed had received files from Caleb Kudah

Sam George’s post generated series of reactions and ghanaspinn.com compiled a few. Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe asked: “And this is coming from a Member of Parliament?” Fiifi Asiedu said: “Honorable it’s the nation’s security installation we are talking about here, c’mon. The journalist went overboard and must be condemned. This is not a matter of shutting out the voices of people. When it must be done, it must be done right. And people must know their limits.” Nana Hesse Ogyiri added: “Sometimes don't comment...u make nonsense of the legislature where u happily pride yourself with. Can YOU???? go to Pentagon and start filming? Stop these cheap political scores.”

George Dzigbordi-Washington Kwame stated: “My take; I don't blame the Police/the National Security authorities but rather the NDC parliamentarians especially those on the appointment committee for still going ahead to endorse the re-nomination of the very ministers who manhandled Ghanaians throughout the first 4 years of this administration.
