Agyenim-Boateng pressures Bawumia to speak about the Muslim students – Wesley Girls case

The CEO of NBC Limited, James Agyenim-Boateng has urged the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Mahamadu Bawumia to speak about the ongoing issue concerning the Wesley Girls and Muslim students.

A few weeks ago, the headmistress of the institutions ordered that all Muslims in the school should not observe Ramadan fasting. The incident sparked rage in the country.

In fact, there were sections of Christians who also frowned on the rule. Also, Methodist Church, the missionary body that built Wesley Girls defended the authorities of the institution.

According to Agyenim-Boateng, the Vice President is the second-highest person in Ghana holding public office. So being a Muslim too, he has to send a clear message that declares his stance on the matter. “Silence is not an option that is open to the Veep in this matter.

The reason is simple; he is the topmost public officer after the president and he is a Muslim.” “He cannot, therefore, continue his deafening silence when Muslim students say that they are deliberately denied the opportunity to fast in school during Ramadan.

This is particularly so when Dr Bawumia has never been shy to publicly share his view on many issues.“ “This is the time for the Vice President to show that his commitment to the Muslim people is not mere rhetorics. This is the time for Dr Bawumia to show that his commitment to the Islamic faith is not limited to photo opportunities with the revered national chief imam.” Agyenim Boateng added.

Unfortunately, this is the second time a case of this calibre, consecutively has taken place in 2021 alone. First, it was the Rastafarians with Achimota school.

As of now, the affected students are at home waiting for the rule from the court.
