Arrest and prosecute them if they fail to mask up - Virologists suggest a way to prevent third wave

Ghanaians have been warned about a possible Covid-19 third wave, which has already made inroads in some coutries including India and the UK. According to virologists, the third wave is being instigated by a new Covid-19 variant, which is proving quite detrimental especially in India. The B.1.617 Covid-19 variant which was detected in India has wiped over 30,000 souls after over 400,000 cases were reported in the last few months. Moreover the B.1.1.7 Covid-19 variant, which was first detected in the UK has also spread to numerous countries already.

The frightening nature of the new Covid-19 variants makes it overly imperative for Ghanaians to take the Covid-19 safety protocols serious. According to Dr. Michael Owusu, who is a virologists at Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research(KCCR), if an infected person slips through our airport and not well checked, the country would be at serious risk because, he will surely end up transmitting it to others in the country since most Ghanaians don't observe the protocols which will spark the third wave in the country.

Dr. Michael Owusu also called for the security agencies and police to enforce all Covid-19 protocols. He suggested that, since it's a law for everyone to observe Covid-19 safety measures, recalcitrant citizens should be arrested and prosecuted if they fail to heed the protocols. This caution requires Ghanaians to collectively rekindle the observation of the safety measure to help mitigate it spread when it gets into the country. As we speak the nation's covid-19 death stands at 784 after 93,011 cases, which isn't very serious compared to other countries. However, the country has to do more to continue keeping the figures low.
