Remember Late Prof. Evans Atta-Mills?; See Recent Updates And Legacies About Him

The former president of the republic of Ghana, who is also the fourth John of the Fourth Republic, late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills, died while in office on July 24, 2012, following a short period of illness.

Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills was president of Ghana from January, 2009 up to his sudden demise in 2012. He was married to Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills (Former First Lady) and had one son with her whose name is Kofi Atta-Mills.

The most glaring achievement of late Evans Atta Mills is that Ghana's economy recorded the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of over 11 percent since independence. His period also saw the most steady national economic growth and development.

Another legacy that the late former president left behind among several others was the Atta-Mills Institute, which has been established as an apolitical Civic Education and Public Policy Advocacy Think-Tank meant to champion the cause of Mindset Transformation for national development.

Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills was given a most befitting burial on August 11, 2012, by being laid to rest at Ghana's first presidential Mausoleum known in Ghana as the Asomdwe Park located inside the national capital, Accra.

However, the tomb has since been left unattended to, with the place currently in disarray and in chaos. This does not reciprocate the kind of devotion and hard work the former president gave to this country. This too needs to be fixed.

A recent visit to the Asomdwe Park by a Citi News reporter indicates that the well-crafted metallic cover of the tomb has developed grim cracks detaching itself from the rest of the artefacts that surrounded of the tomb.

This is an expression of total ungratefulness on the part of our politicians to abandon the tomb of an significant president in such a state. This surely should also be part of the "Fix the country" advocate. Our leaders must not abandon it.
